Submit a complete rough draft of your persuasive essay (beginning, middle, and end).
You’ll be completing a draft of Persuasive essay, with an author’s NOTE . I ask you to turn in the first half (with Works Cited list and Author’s Note) SOMETIMES BEFORE DEADLINE so I can give you some feedback, then the full draft Saturday for peer critiques.
I’ve written comments on everyone’s work from last week–the research assignment and “two paragraphs.” Be sure to look at my comments on those so you can incorporate that feedback into your drafts.
The key to persuasion is knowing your audience. As you draft, keep those skeptical readers in mind. You might even want to picture a particular reader and write directly to them. Use the logic and reasoning, emotion, and personal character that will appeal to that person, who disagrees with you.

Incorporating your research
I had a question about how to incorporate your research into your essay. It might actually work best to draft the essay first using only your own knowledge and experiences for support. Then go back and see where evidence from at least two sources could enhance what you’ve said. The essay should be primarily your own words and ideas.
Focus on using all three kinds of persuasion (logic and evidence, emotion, and trustworthy character) to get readers who disagree with you to listen to your point of view and respect it. The source supporting readers’ point of view can be used to show you understand where they’re coming from. That will contribute to ethos: listening to and respecting readers will encourage them to listen to and respect you.
