This is my extended essay for the IB diploma. My research question is “How does the characterization of female protagonists by male authors differ from that of female authors?” and the two books for this essay are Madame Bovary by Gustave Flaubert and The Awakening by Kate Chopin. I would like you to write about how the authors describe the female protagonist (whether they mainly describe the physical appearance or how complex they make the character).
