Assignment Purpose and Overview: Students will watch a film and analyze the use of interpersonal concepts, models and theories that take place in the film. This paper is a culminating experience to assess your knowledge of interpersonal communication that was learned during this course. You will select a film and write a paper using the instructions below.
Instructions: Students will write an APA paper that is at least five pages conducting an interpersonal communication behavior analysis of a film. They will choose the film of their choice. The film must be approved by the professor in the Critical Assignment Plan assignment submitted in week five.
Once viewed, you will conduct a film analysis* and present the findings to the class in the form of a paper. You will apply what youve learned throughout the course. That means terminology and concepts learned throughout the course must be provided. Analyze the behaviors of the characters, as they relate to interpersonal communication, as well as provide suggestions for improvement. A successful film analysis will include a minimum of 3 terms/concepts/theories from the text with page citations.
*Because movies are often long, you can pick main themes throughout the movie to analyze. In addition, you should discuss both effective and non-effective communication in the film and offer recommendations for improvement based on what youve learned.
Follow the specific instructions below.
1. Introduction: Introduce the interpersonal communication concepts that you will observe. Describe the film selected and include a clear thesis statement. The introduction should accomplish four things; 1. Explain the purpose of your paper. 2. Introduce the interpersonal concepts you will observe when viewing the film. 3. State the film you selected to view and why. Make a clear case as to why this film is an excellent example of interpersonal communication concepts to observe and analyze. 4. Present a well-developed thesis statement.
2. Film Summary: Provide a summary of the film. Tell the reader everything they need to know about the film. Summarize the plot, major events and nature of the story.
3. Film Analysis: Analyze the film using a minimum of 3 terms/concepts/theories from the text with page citations. Analyze the behaviors of the characters, as they relate to interpersonal communication. Make sure to define and describe the interpersonal communication terms, concepts and/or theories and then analyze the film using the said concepts.( one of the concepts being nonverbal and verbal communications
4. Discussion: Provide your academic opinion of the use of interpersonal communication in the film. Discuss the effectiveness of the use of interpersonal communication concepts, models and theories within the film. Was the film successful in the accurate portrayal of these concepts? If so, how were they successful or not successful?
5. Conclusion: Provide a clear conclusion to the paper.
6. Utilize the course text AND at least 1 outside sources.
