After reading the case study “Internal Consistency at Customers First” at the end of Chapter 6 of your textbook, write a short paper that adequately answers the following questions:
Do you think that job analysis and job evaluation will benefit Customers First? Why or why not?
What is your opinion of Joan’s view on job analysis and job evaluation?
What do you recommend the compensation professionals at Customers First do? Why?
please include Deborah’s role in moderating Joan’s views. Joan’s view may be normal for someone who may not have HR training. Hence the importance of Deborah’s role to advise her leadership.
HR professionals provide senior management with warnings or trends occurring in the organization that may lead to more serious issues. However, most HR professionals do not approach the topic(s) in a way businesspeople understand. HR needs a well-planned, formal action plan that aligns with the business strategy. Each action plan has a set of goals, an individual who is responsible for making sure the plan objectives are met, a budget, a timetable, and a measurable result. (Sullivan, 2002).
Joan reacted in the same manner as other senior level managers. She did not connect how this helped or affected the bottom-line. Explaining how this process is a need and how it can affect the company financially is a good way to open up a dialogue between HR professionals and senior level managers. For instance, Deborah could have brought up the pay difference between males and females within the organization and how that have legal ramifications. Adding how “conducting job analyses increases the chance that employment decisions are based solely on pertinent job requirements” (Martocchio, 2015, p. 125) thus ensuring legal compliance.
