Architecture proposal

assignment process:
1] select one artwork or building or artist or architect of your choice pertaining to our
course framework [circa 1850 to WW II]; if in doubt of your
choice, please consult with the instructor. Please note that you cannot select a work
or an artist which you use for your concept map assignment.
Follow your personal interest: what do you want to know more about?
what intrigues/baffles you?
2] research 5 sources [could be anything from academic journal article to YouTube
video, documentary, etc.], summarize/describe all 5 sources [=key findings], and how
they could be used in your project [background information, evidence for your opinion
or ’hunch’, antagonistic perspective, …] in an ANNOTATED BIBLIOGRAPHY [Chicago
Style referencing format].
3] search visuals of the artwork or building [could be details] or artist’s or architect’s
work that would help you to make your argument and show what you are interested
in.
4] write a 250-word research proposal [double-spaced], outlining your motivation,
possible goals, and questions you would be interested in pursuing in a focused research
project. NARROW DOWN YOUR INTERESTS, before you write!
Try to be as specific as possible: even if the questions you pose are open, to include
more diverse research findings and opinions, you need to argue for their precise
connection to your single focus. This proposal does not need to include a thesis
statement as such [=what you will be arguing for]; but ONE issue or ONE aspect you
are interested in.
Do not provide a ‘general introduction’ to the topic; make sure to be very focused,
precise and specific in your proposal.
This does not mean doing a lot of research/reading, but rather reflecting on what you
want to focus on, and which questions would help you in this research process: e.g.
which precise detail you want to focus on, which precise problem you want
disentangle, which precise development or influences you want to trace, etc..
