Students will choose an argumentative topic that they wish to research and write about. They will then produce an 800-1000 word (5-6 pages) essay formatted according to MLA.
The essay should apply the standards of edited American English to fluently convey meaning.
The essay should contain direct quotes and paraphrases from a minimum of 2-3 scholarly or reputable research sources (print or web-based). Sources should be drawn primarily from the library catalog and databases.
In addition to the traditional support points for the argument posed in the essay, the essay should also contain well-developed counterargument(s) with rebuttal(s) addressing alternate viewpoint(s) to strengthen the position.
Accurate in-text citations and a complete Works Cited page, formatted according to the most recent edition of MLA.
