Scientific Article Review –
This assignment must be based off of a primary research article. Your assignment is to read a primary article of your choosing and answer the following questions. This must be typewritten. You can choose a primary research article that is biologically relevant from any scientific journal—one of the following journals may be a good starting point: Journal of Ecology, Journal of Experimental Marine Biology and Ecology, Journal of Plant Physiology, Animal Behaviour, Journal of Animal Physiology, Journal of Experimental Biology (JEB), and Animal Nutrition.
You will turn in a 2 to 5 page paper on this article covering the outline below.
Include the Full citation of the Paper at the top of your paper. You may use the following format: Authors last name, initials, year, article title, journal title, volume, page numbers
Abstract:
Read the abstract and briefly (4-10 sentences) answer the following questions. (hint, this might be easiest to complete LAST)
What is the purpose or rationale of the study, methodology, results and conclusion of your paper? This will be almost like an abstract of THE abstract, but it will be good practice in writing information in your own words.
Introduction:
Read the introduction and write sentences/paragraphs that clearly state the following:
What is the topic and what is some background information that the authors cite about your topic?
What are some of the references the author(s) use(s) to illustrate what is known about the topic? (you can copy and paste these, if you like, from the paper)
What is not known about the topic?
What is the question(s) the author(s) asked and answered?
Methods:
Read the methods and summarize the methods used to answer the question outlined in the introduction.
