Grading
Essays are required and scored pass/fail. Comments will be returned with scoring, and essays may be revised and resubmitted. Failure to submit essay will result in a 2-point penalty from your final course grade – each instance. Failure to submit essay on time will also result in a 2-point penalty from your final course grade – each instance.
The following grading rubric will be used.
Students must write a coherent essay consisting of two components: form and content.
A. Form: the essay must conform to the following form:
1. An Introduction (statement of thesis)
2. A Body (argument = logic + evidence)
3. A Conclusion (restatement of thesis in light of argument)
B. Content: The essay must show both depth and breadth with respect to the material covered in the essay. Content of essay directly addresses/fulfills the assigned task.
