Manifesto
Length: 5 pages
Double-spaced, 12 pt. font
Chicago Style
A manifesto is a declaration of belief, aims, andor policy. It is often used in a political
and/or social context for the purpose of activating change. In modern art history, the
manifesto is an important platform on which artists, historians, and philosophers came
together for the pursuit of change. Inspired by the various manifestoes considered in
this class, students must author their own manifesto. In essence, this assignment asks
that students articulate and commit to a statement regarding their own work in the arts
and social change, by first asking What do I believe?
In keeping with the performative nature of a manifesto, this assignment can be
accompanied by a work of art, a performance, a piece of music, or a dance. All creative
submissions must accompany a written manifesto, submitted as a Word.doc or PDF.
