Internalized: This is how oppression works within the groups of people who suffer the most from it.
• Oppressed people learn the ideology of inferiority, see it reflected in institutions, experience it interpersonally from members of the dominant group, and eventually come to internalize the negative messages about themselves.
• Internalized oppression can lead to heavy feelings of powerlessness or despair.
In light of the above, list how oppression works, and taking the assigned readings into considerations, please defend or refute Jefferson’s quote below:
“All, too, will bear in mind this sacred principle, that though the will of the majority is in all cases to prevail, that will to be rightful must be reasonable; that the minority possess their equal rights, which equal law must protect, and to violate would be oppression.”
