Hi All
For the second discussion, I would like you to:
Read the attached document this was collated from numerous previous discussion exercises with HCC students (your predecessors on the course). These discussions outlined potential individual actions to help address climate change but didnt outline the specifics of how to do these actions.
Select and outline two actions from the list (or another source if you prefer) that you already do or would like to do. If you really dont do or want to do anything, just pretend and pick something that seems do-able! You can write up to 300 words for each action.
An example of the type of thing I am envisaging is included below.
Example Action
Theme
Recycle
Action
Recycle paper from my flat/home
Making it happen
Order a recycling bin from the County.
Find out collection days and times.
Find out what not accepted as paper.
Available support
Which website(s) provide information on paper recycling?
Support for other types of activity might include grants and tax breaks.
Possible barriers
Hassle ordering the bin?
Time to sort out the paper.
Time to put recycle bin out for collection.
Forgetting collection day.
Need to ensure sensitive documents are unreadable.
How will you overcome the barriers?
put collection day reminder in your phone calendar.
buy shredder at a cost of $x from website/shop y.
Likely cost
Cost of paper shredder
In Howard County, curbside collection is free to property owners although these are charged a yearly refuse collection charge of $325 per house (with yard trim collection) and $310 (without yard trim collection).
Note: the above is a skeleton answer for your actions, I expect you to provide more details and really talk someone through the process so that the action seems do-able.
There will be no Zoom session for this discussion as the format does not really lend itself to this exercise.
As always, please comment on two posts by fellow students.
I will collate the responses and hope that we move towards a student-produced guide on individual actions (I will collate the responses from the two classes currently running and share it with you).
