Background history of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Antonia Salieri:
Mozart was born in Salzburg Austria in 1756 and was the sole-surviving son of Leopold and Maria Pertl Mozart. Wolfgang was home-schooled by his father who was a gifted musical educator.
Antonio Salieri was born in 1750 into a prosperous Italian family of merchants. He studied harpsichord and violin from an early age. Salieri was only 24 when Emperor Joseph II appointed him the Austrian court composer in 1774.
There is too little factual evidence of any treacherous activity by Salieri against Mozart, though they did know each other and undoubtedly competed for some of the same prizes.
There are also no facts in support of the charges of poisoning. Director Milos Forman (Links to an external site.)from the start that his story, Amadeus (1984) was fictional.
