Format and Criteria for Papers
Format:
Use 12-point font, Times New Roman. Double spaced, one and a half to two pages in length, not including references. Cite sources and list references in accordance with MLA professional style guidelines. Uses of visual examples and demonstration web links are encouraged, if it enhances your point.
Components:
You are not writing a thesis, so no need to get too fancy. You are answering some important questions, though, and you want to be thorough and professional in response. Write as though you are informing the Governor, or the Congressman you work for (for instance), to help him/her make an important policy decision. And you would really like to keep you job! Begin your essay by telling the reader what the topic is about, then tell all the good stuff while being sure to spice it up with citations of credible sources to assure objectivity, and as evidence you know what you are talking about and aren’t just blowing smoke. Finish with a sensible conclusion. Is there something you/we can see in the crystal ball for the future, that you can explain? Is there a foregone conclusion, that you can explain? Is there a need for further research, analysis, application – or what – that you can explain? Explain, why or why not.
Clarity:
Grammar, syntax and spelling are fundamental requirements. Proofread your work before turning it in.
References:
Cite all sources as supporting materials to validate your work. Use MLA professional style guide.
