Instructions
Purpose:
1. to demonstrate knowledge of group communication theory and to practice good group communication skills
2. to address LO11 observe, explain, and apply the major concepts used to describe small group processes, including
11a. group characteristics, 11b. decision making, roles, and 11c. norms for interaction.
Tasks:
I want you to reflect to a team or group you have been apart. Information to answer these questions can be found on the unit. This is NOT A GROUP PAPER.
It could be a sports team, class groups, or even your family group. I want you to apply the unit information to your group experience to learn how to be a productive team member. Answer the following questions in regard to the group/team you selected. Each response should be in complete sentences.
Provide a brief description of the team or group. In your response, tell what kind of small group (social, learning, etc.). How many members did it include? What was its purpose?
Describe the behaviors the team or group exhibited as it went through each stage of development (forming. Norming, etc). In your response, outline each stage and how your team went through that stage.
Describe a problem the team or group encountered. What steps were taken to address and solve the problem? Was the team or group able to generate a successful solution? Why or why not?
Identify a task, maintenance, and disruptive role you used in your group. Offer and example with each.
What was the small group communication patterns (wheel, star, etc.) and offer an example to how reveal the influence of the power and status on the group interactions of members?
Explain whether the team or group was effective. Support your position by discussing goals, roles, ground rules, norms, and characteristics your team or group displayed. How did these characteristics affect the teams or groups ability to accomplish its purpose or goal?
