Using the information you gathered for the previous paper on families as well as your readings, write a 4-5-page paper focusing on supporting the attachments of families in a professional setting. In other words, how could you support families as they strive to have healthy, happy children?

Short
Paper 1: Attachment-Separation in Infants and Toddlers
This is a 5-page,
double-spaced paper plus a reference page. The objective of this assignment is
for you to demonstrate your knowledge of how to assess attachment/separation
in infants and toddlers.

1) Select an age for
an infant (birth-11 months) and an age for a toddler (12-30
months) and describe and explain the kinds of behaviors indicative of
attachment that would be expected at each age (remember you are NOT using the
types/patterns of attachment from research, just the child’s connection to the
caregiver). Then describe and explain what might be signs of difficulty
in attachment at each age. For example, if the infant is 6 months old,
you might expect him to smile at anyone and everyone who holds him.
Perhaps his eyes would follow his mother as she moves around the room. If you
select a child at 18 months, you might expect her to stand close to
mom until the caregiver takes her by the hand and she might…
2( Application: What
sort of activities could you provide that would assist infants and toddlers in
separating as comfortably as possible from their caregivers using the ages you
selected?
3) Conclude with an
evaluation of this assignment, whether or not you do #2 above.

Guidelines
Analysis: This observation is not intended and could not be an
assessment of an attachment, identification of an attachment pattern,
or anything that substantial. The goal in this assignment is to guide you and
make sure you understand what actions/behaviors are helpful in learning about
attachments in infants and toddlers.
Short Paper 2: Infant/Toddler Attachment and
Families
Using the information you gathered for the previous paper on
families as well as your readings, write a 4-5-page paper focusing on
supporting the attachments of families in a professional setting. In
other words, how could you support families as they strive to have healthy,
happy children?
For this paper you will draw from the Rolfe chapters and at
least three academic articles that you have found to support your discussion.
(These can be three of the same articles you reported on in your Annotated
Bibliography assignment in Module 6.) Annoted Bibliography is attached.
Please answer the following questions:
How would you engage families in a
child-care or social service program?
How might you assist families in caring
for their infants and toddlers, taking into consideration cultural,
economic, and psychological differences such as temperament/personality?
How would you use communication to
effectively build these relationships with them and to assist them in
building healthy relationships with their children?
What programs might you design to
encourage family support and participation in a child care or early
education program, or a social service program?
Short Paper 3: Public Policy and Practice
Child Care Practices or Child and Family Services:
In this final 3-4 page essay you will demonstrate what you know
and understand about attachment as you apply it to a child care program, social
service program, or to general public policy and practice. You may not be
in a position to make changes to policy, so the objective of this portion of
the paper is to show your competence.
For this paper, please draw from the Rolfe chapters (Rolfe,
S. A. (2004). Rethinking attachment for early childhood practice: Promoting
security, autonomy and resilience in young children. Crow’s Nest: Allen and
Unwin.) and at least two academic articles that you have found to
inform you on this topic. (These can be two of the articles you reported
on for your Annotated Bibliography assignment for Module 6.) Annotated is
attached.
Public Policy and Services for Children and Families
If you do not currently work in a child care program, you may
focus on the public policy side of this issue. Take some time to research the
social service programs that are available in your community. You might start
by contacting your local United Way. You are encouraged to take a look at
current public policy and practices specific to your community. Talk about how
these services help or hinder attachment, in your opinion, making sure to
explain why or why not. For example, you learned in Module 01 how we used to
keep children away from their families during hospitalizations to avoid teary
separations. Now we know that this was a destructive practice. Today, parents
are encouraged to stay at the hospital with an ill child. Some hospitals even
have special rooms and suites to accommodate a family. Be sure to refer to Rethinking
Attachment, Chapter 14 for guidance. With time, we can make changes
to public policy that support young children in a more effective way.
Remember to wrap it all up with a solid conclusion and add a
reference page to the entire research paper.
