Jurisprudence

Research paper, 8-10 pages in length, plus cover page and bibliography. Students must choose a controversial use of police force. You cannot pick a case where there is universal agreement re: the justification or lack thereof, e.g., George Floyd. Explain both sides of the issue, i.e., the justification for the use & the argument against it. Were there any parallel examples to this event in the past? Describe the legal issues. Did the case result in a prosecution against the officer(s)? If so, what was the basis of the prosecutor’s decision & what were the results? Was the use of force consistent with the department’s policy? If not, what did the Department do? Was there a public outcry to the event? If so, describe it. Did this event lead to any change in police policy or the law? Did this event affect the public’s trust in the police and criminal justice system? Close your report with your opinion re: the outcome. Was it fair? Why/why not?
The bibliography must include a minimum of 3 sources; textbooks & Wikipedia may not be used.
