Discussion 6 and Reflection Sheet

Many schools across the nation have what they refer to as professional learning communities (PLCs). If you are familiar with one of those schools, to what degree do you believe it has embraced the six characteristics of PLCs discussed in this chapter? What indicators of the presence or absence of the characteristics are present in the school you are considering?
Instructional leadership is what you will be writing about when answering these questions

Please complete the sheet below for EDL 604.
THEN, choose a video that will reflect the leader you will be in the future and tell why you selected this video. Below are the 4 steps to refer to when becoming and instructional leader. The sheet below is also attached.
Students will understand the 4 steps below when becoming an instructional leader.
1. Pre-conference with teacher. At the pre-conference, the supervisor sits with the teacher and determines (1) the reason for and the purpose of the observation, (2) the focus of the observation, (3) the method and form of observation to be used, (4) the time of the observa- tion, and (5) the time of the postconference. These determinations are made before the actual observation, so that both supervisor and teacher are clear about what will transpire. The purpose of the observation provides the criteria for the remaining decisions on focus, method, and time of observation.
2. Observation of classroom instruction. Observation is the time to follow through with the understandings of the pre-conference. The observer might use any one observation or combination of observations. The observer should keep in mind the difference between descriptions of events and interpretations. Descriptions are the actual events that occurred and are recorded. Interpretations are the meanings inferred from those events.
3. Analyzing and interpreting the observation and determining conference approach. The analysis and interpretations of the observation and the determination of approach are now possible.
4. Post-conference with teacher. With the completed observation form, the completed analysis and interpretation form, and the chosen interpersonal approach, the supervisor is ready to meet with the teacher in a post-conference. The post-conference is held to discuss the analysis of the observation and perhaps producing a plan for instructional improvement.
