Write a child-centered assessment of a child that is between 12 months and 5 years of age. You may NOT use your own child or a child that lives with you. You will need to address the following sections in your paper, which should be 3-5 pages long (not counting the title and reference page). This assessment needs to be in APA format, a list of scholarly references that you used to establish normal child development (growth charts, theories, etc.) and there will need to be in-text citations within the assessments. Use headings that thoroughly addresses the following areas:
Introduction Document date, time, and describe the area where you are completing the assessment. Document that you knocked on the door, who answered the door, how did you and the person greet each other at the door, ask for permission to enter the home, and describe the inside of the home/place the assessment is being conducted
Parent Interview Ensure to document demographics (age, race, SES, parent(s) job, etc.), information about the parents’ relationship, support during pregnancy, etc. Ask the parents about the childs health history (prenatal care, birth history, illnesses, immunizations, etc.)
Child Interview Complete Personal-Social assessment, motor skills, language skills and document how you interacted with the child.
Recommendation Summarize relevant information focusing on strengths and challenges (where the child appears to be on target and where the child appears to be challenged and document recommendations for follow-up.
Reflections Thoroughly discuss what the experience was like for you (what was difficult, what came easy, what you learned, what skills you would like to improve in the future, etc.
Remember: You are not diagnosing the child you are simply assessing where he or she falls on the continuum of what is considered to be normal child development. Assessment involves knowing what the developmental milestones are, and then considering where the child falls on the continuum of normal. Remember that parents can be very sensitive to what their child can and cannot do, so be careful how you approach giving them your assessment and/or recommendations.
