The early ’70s, as the decades shifted, were a turbulent time in rock. The music split off into extreme directions—heavy metal and glam rock on the one hand, soft rock on the other, and somewhere in the middle the Beatles trying to make sense of it all. After listening to the artists here, why do you think rock went in such extremely different directions in the early ’70s? We’ll also deal more with the ’70s in the next lesson.
