Your essay should:
Establish the context of the conversation and the importance of the issue you are researching.
Address your audience of readers invested in the topic and who are possibly already participating in the conversation you’ve entered. You should imagine your audience as including your Flexible Option peers, your peer reviewers, and your assessors.
Use an effective rhetorical approach to reach the intended audience. Such an approach might include any or all of the following:
Convincing your audience to consider the validity of your position as a valuable contribution to the conversation.
Broadening your audience’s perception on the topic by providing them with new information geared at shaping their understanding.
Clarifying your audience’s understanding of the topic by taking their vague or common view of the subject in order to make it a more accurate reflection of the issue under discussion.
Advance a position on the issue by making a claim.
Support your claim with reasons supported by evidence.
Consider alternative positions or counterarguments relative to the conversation about the issue.
Conclude by synthesizing your key points and providing readers with ideas for further consideration.
Contain a minimum of five to seven scholarly or academic sources. At least two of your sources must be scholarly.
Follow the guidelines of a recognized documentation style (such as MLA, APA, or CMS) for in-text citations and the works cited page.
Be formatted in accordance with a recognized documentation style and be approximately five to six pages (1500 to 1800 words) in length.
