Assignment
Brainstorming and Thesis
Assignment Do some brainstorming for your first essay. You can list, use mapping, brainstorm, etc… — whatever type of brainstorming you enjoy. (If needed, review Chapter 9).
Once you have an idea of what you will write about, practice writing a thesis statement. Your thesis is your paper’s central argument and needs to go at the end of your introduction. You can write more than one if you are still “playing” with them. Don’t use first person (I, me, my, we, us) in the thesis. (If needed, review Chapter 14)
For this type of an essay, you are making some type of argument about the career you are evaluating. So it could be something such as: X is a positive career to enter into because of A, B, and C. If you are comfortable with writing a thesis statement, you are welcome to try your own model, but please feel free to use this model as a great way to express your thesis.
