For this assessment task you will be required to submit a verbal presentation on the article which you chose to review in Written Assignment 1. In this assessment we do not want to see that students have read from Written Assignment 1, rather we would like you to take this opportunity to expand on the information that you have already explore or that you didn’t get to explore.
To complete this assessment, you should use the headings below as a template for your presentation.
Introduce yourself and the article.
Provide your name and a brief introduction to why the article appealed to you.
Provide the author(s) name, the title of the article and where it was published.
A brief summary
A description and summary of the text.
Relevance/usefulness of the text for the essay
Explain how the source contributes to your understanding of the question/topic and how useful is it to your own research.
We’d really like you to focus on this, as you really didn’t get to highlight the articles usefulness to your essay topic in Written Assignment 1.
Scholarly/sociological source
Provide a statement identifying why this source is a scholarly/sociological source.
Consider adding a sentence or two about what you learnt, sociologically, from the article.
A note on referencing, you should identify key reference details when you introduce the article (for example, the author(s) name, the title of the article and where it was published). From then on, you can refer to the article using last name(s) of the author(s).
In this assessment we want to see that you were able to accurately identify the article and provide a clear insight into the article without unnecessary detail, the demonstrate the usefulness of the source, and an identification of the scholarly/sociological nature of the source. We also want you to demonstrate your presentation skills and use of technology.
While we will not be providing a rubric for this assessment task, there are three main qualities that we are looking for in your work:
1. Faultless identification of the article and a summary that provides excellent insight to the key debates
We want to see the critical information for the article be identified, this means the author(s) name, the title of the article and where it was published. We also want to see a clear summary of the article, that provides the audience with an insight and explanation of the key debates that are addressed.
2. Demonstration of the source usefulness and scholarly/sociological nature
We want to see that you have a clear understanding of how the source will be useful in addressing the essay question you have chosen for written assignment 2. We also want to identify why it is scholarly and why it is sociological.
3. Verbal expression and use of technology
We want to see that your presentation showcased excellent communication skills and knowledge of the content. This includes your use of technology.
