Overview: Your will conduct an experiment to test your hypothesis for your final project. In this assignment, you will design the experiment (define variables, design/organize materials, plan the procedure, etc.) exactly as you will conduct it before beginning to collect data. You will not be able to begin data collection until you incorporate any changes I recommend to your methods.
HINT: Plan to use some version of your responses to these questions in your final paper!
Feel free to replicate a study (or part of a study) you read for your annotated bibliography. Plan to collect data from a minimum of n = 10 participants (participants should be members of the Bloomfield College community or close social contacts of yours).
1. Describe your experimental design (e.g. between-subjects or within-subjects). How will this design specifically help answer your research question/test your hypothesis? Be sure to provide operational definitions of your IV (+ conditions) and DV(s).
2. Describe the materials you will be using for your study. Attach any materials you will be using – stimuli, questionnaires, etc. You should plan to include these materials as Figures or Appendices for your final project.
3. Explain your procedure in detail. Write it as you will write the Procedure of your Method section (i.e. write it in past tense). Include enough detail so that someone unfamiliar with your study would be able to replicate it. You will be able to use this as a draft for the Procedure section of your final project.
4. Discuss potential limitations and confounding variables for your study as you have designed it. Hint: You will include this information as part of the discussion section of your final paper.

Final Project Data Analysis and Results Questions
Objective: To analyze and interpret participant data from your research experiment. Specifically, to conduct the appropriate descriptive and inferential statistical analyses relevant to addressing your research questions. This assignment also focuses on writing APA-style Results and Discussion sections and Figures/captions.
Part I: Data Analysis and Results
Instructions: On Blackboard, I have posted three data analysis templates to be opened in Microsoft Excel to enter and analyze your participant data. They are set up to automatically calculate and provide the relevant descriptive and inferential analysis you are using (correlation, repeated-measures, independent-samples). Within each file, you will find a data table that will automatically generate descriptive (Mean, Standard Deviation) and inferential test (t-test, correlation) results. It will also automatically generate a figure (graph) for you. Please upload both your answers to the questions below and your completed data file to Blackboard.
1. First, replace the unlabeled variable names with your variable names.
2. Then, delete the sample data that has been entered (this is here to give you a template to show where and how your data should be entered), and input your participant data. You should see the means, standard deviations, and p-values for your data, which are your official results. Wow!
**Remember, p-values less than 0.05 mean you found a significant difference between your conditions! In other words, a significant effect of the IV on the DV**
3. Next, fill in the templates below using complete sentences. You will use much of this information in the Results and Figures sections of your final papers, so use this opportunity to hone your science-writing skills.

It’s like mad-libs, except for APA writing! Use the template below and fill in the specifics of your experimental design/data. Get rid of the highlights before turning in.
This study examined the effect of IV on DV. I found that IV condition 1 (M = , SD = ) did OR did not have significantly higher/lower DV than IV condition 2 (M =, SD = ), p = X (Figure X).

Part II: Discussion
Instructions: Compose a Discussion section for your final paper (see also Final Project instructions). In your Discussion, be sure to answer the following questions. Feel free to use the template below to begin your Discussion.
1. Do your results support your hypothesis?
2. Are your results consistent with the study you replicated (or a study that is closely related to yours)?
3. How does your work add to the body of knowledge about your topic? Be sure to relate your results to specific theories and hypotheses (and their corresponding articles) you reviewed in your Introduction.
4. Discussion at least 2 limitations of your study, why they are limitations, and how a future study could address these.
5. Provide a suggestion for future research on your topic (these should logically derive from your results/limitations).
