Write an essay to describe the trends in migration within the United States, and analyze (study and explain) how these demographic shifts impacted and continue to impact the development of the United States. You will need to:
Begin your essay with an introduction (a sentence that summarizes the content of your essay).
Identify major groups that moved within the United States from the colonial period to the twentieth century and describe where they moved.
Describe why each group moved. Some people may have moved by choice (e.g. better weather, proximity to friends or loved ones), while others may have felt pressured to move (e.g. economic downturns, persecution).
After you have done this, analyze ways in which these movements impacted the growth and development of the United States.
Organize this essay as follows:
Introduction (approximately ½ page)
Description of groups that migrated within the United States (2–3 pages)
Comparison of motivations to migrate (minimum 2–3 pages)
Explanation of positive and negative impacts of migration (2–3 pages)
Conclusion (approximately ½ page)
References (½-1 page)
