Submit the assignment by 11:59 PM PT Sunday of Module 1.
Administrators will encounter both legal and ethical dilemmas related to the delivery of healthcare services during their daily responsibilities. Numerous federal and state laws and regulations impact administrative and clinical decisions, and standard decision-making models have been adopted by healthcare organizations to mitigate legal risks. Hammaker and Knadig (2017) also describe eight ethical decision-making models which can guide healthcare professionals.
In this assignment, you will compare legal and ethical decision-making models in a situation regarding drug safety.
Step 1. Research
Research legal and ethical considerations about medication and drug safety by finding at least 2 references on each of these topics:
Legal considerations related to drug safety,
Ethical considerations regarding drug safety, and
Decision-making models used in healthcare settings.
Also, review the ethical decision-making models described in the course (Hammaker & Knadig, 2017):
Social media model,
Utility model,
Rights model,
Exceptions model,
Choices model,
Justice model,

Virtue model.
Step 2. Describe
Describe a situation in which the safety of a drug or medication or its marketing, dispensing, or delivery protocols might be questioned, debated, or even litigated.
Step 3. Determine
Determine at least two relevant ethical decision-making models which could inform the best course of action in the situation described in Step 2.
Step 4. Cite
Cite at least one law or regulation related to the situation described in Step 2.
Step 5. Explain
Select one healthcare decision-making model from your research in Step 1 and explain its relevance to the situation you described in Step 2.
Step 6. Create
Create a comparison chart to examine similarities and differences among decisions and actions following legal/regulatory standards, the decision-making model you selected in Step 5, and at least 2 ethical decision-making models.
Step 7. Write
Write an introduction, including descriptions of the situation and all legal/regulatory standards and details of the decision-making models you compared. Write a conclusion paragraph to articulating the best course of action in the described healthcare situation with justifications from your comparison chart.
Step 8. Compile and Submit
Compile all content from Steps 1-7 into an APA-formatted paper with a title page and a references page. Be sure to address all steps. Include your comparison chart as a figure. Submit your paper.
