Children’s literature encompasses a variety of genres, from picture books to poetry to fantasy to non-fiction. Analyzing and selecting the appropriate genre and literature can be challenging. Appropriate genres should be selected based on the grade level, as well as the students’ academic readiness. At each grade level, the teacher determines appropriate literature that addresses young children’s characteristics including strengths, interests, and needs to develop literacy skills.
Utilzing story “Hyena in the forest” for 3rd graders create a literature-based lesson that focuses on this genre of children’s literature focusing to meet the standards for reading, writing, listening and speaking.
