1) Deja vu all over again?
The people depicted in the Gilgamesh epic lived over 5000 years before our time, yet we seem to understand most of their actions and motivations as if they happened last year. What about them were you most surprised to find was similar to us? How were they most different from us?

2)Civilization
Gilgamesh is the literature of a people who actually experienced the emergence from barbarity into civilization, people who actually knew what was lost in the transition and what was gained from it. Judging from the text, what do you think was the most important thing that is gained, and what is the most important thing that is lost when one becomes civilized?
