The Individual Global Human Rights Research project allows you to conduct more in-depth research into a human rights issue of your choice (with my approval). There are two primary focal points for the project: (1) problem identification and description; (2) actual and potential solutions.
The initial focus of your research project will be to identify and describe the key characteristics of the global human rights issue/problem that you have selected. Core questions to research are as follows.
✓ What are the key characteristics and scope of the human rights issue/problem?
✓ What specific human rights categories are most closely related to the selected issue?
✓ What are the specific ways in which the human right has not been protected or actually violated?
✓ What are some significant cases that exemplify the global human rights issue/problem?
After having examined the characteristics and scope of the issue, the second focal point of your project shifts to a problem solving approach. Here the following questions are relevant.
✓ What international legal agreements exist – globally and regionally – to address the issue/problem?
✓ What international organizations – both IGOs and NGOs – have been and are working to remedy the human rights problem and advance its protection and promotion?
✓ Have these organizations been successful – why or why not (what obstacles have they faced, etc.)?
✓ What specific recommendations would you make to further the protection and promotion of this particular human rights issue?
