2. The Fairy Tale. Choose
any of Grimm’s fairy tales and respond to the following prompts.

In what ways would/could this tale be attractive to children?
What universal truths about the human condition does it seem to
discuss?
Did the tale end in a way surprising to you? How?
3. The Hero. Familiarize yourself with both
Homer’s Odyssey and Rowling’s Harry Potter series. Respond to the following prompts.
In what ways is Harry Potter’s journey similar to that of Homer’s
Odysseus? Be specific! Give examples!
Focusing on your favorite books, comics, films, or even your
personal life, to whom would you attribute the title of “hero?” What makes you say this? IMPORTANT: How is their journey like that
of Homer’s Odysseus? Be specific! Show that you have researched the heroic
ideal.
Why do you think Homer’s Odyssey is still read today and
used as an example of the heroic ideal (even with all of his flaws)?
4. Creation Myths. Compare the creation myths of
ancient Greece, Judeo-Christianity, and one other (“non-Western”; ancient or
contemporary) culture of your choosing.
Describe the culture’s version of the creation of the world and human beings
in detail! Remember, you must do three! Speak to me if you need ideas or examples.
