Geographers use all sorts of tools to help them investigate their questions. They commonly use maps, globes, atlases, aerial photographs, satellite photographs, information graphics, and a computer program called GIS.
This assignment has two parts. The tools part and the 5 themes part. This is what I want you to do.
Part 1: Tools Part
Read this article “What Tools Are Used in Geography? (https://sciencing.com/tools-used-geography-8245388.html)”
Then check out this resource: Geography-Tools-Handout.pdf(https://drive.google.com/file/d/12hLdwWOCqk5_NgxY9W4h9y65R_L7KB1g/view)
Now comes the fun part… 🙂 Answer the following questions using words or pictures from the internet. If you are quoting the internet say something like.According to the National Geographic Society, a relief map…. For the images please provide the URL to the photo.
1. What are 5 types of maps? (there are more than this really just pick 5 (https://mocomi.com/types-of-maps/))
2. Describe each type of map and provide an example. EXAMPLE: Political Map: A political map shows the state and national boundaries of a place.
A political map does not have any topographic features. It also shows the location of cities, with respect to each other.
3. What Is the Difference Between Satellite Imagery & Aerial Photography? What are the advantages of each? (You may need to read this article(https://sciencing.com/difference-satellite-imagery-aerial-photography-8621214.html) or use Google to learn more). Provide an example of the same place in each image… Meaning if you are going to pick Paris, show a satellite image and an aerial photo of each.Remember if you are using information from another source you need to say who it is.
4.Now find me an infographic about something related to geography and put the link as your answer for this question.
Example: https://pbs.twimg.com/media/CxzGiRUWgAAytbN.jpg
Part 2: 5 Themes Part
1. Choose a place in the world you have been or would like to go.
2. Describe the place using all 5 themes of geography. Example: “One place I have always wanted to visit is the Galapagos Island. Place: The relative location of the Galapagos is off the coast of Ecuador in South America. The absolute location is 0° 46′ 38.1324” S and 91° 8′ 33.2808” W.
3. Underline the theme and highlight the various sub domains. Refer to your 5-4-3-2-1 Notes for more information.
4. Now choose 3 tools of a geographer and provide an example of each: Example: An aerial photo of the Galapagos Islands.
A map of the … like that… Put this all in a document (PDF).
Part 3: Cartogram Part
1. Now Explore the World Mapper (https://worldmapper.org/maps/) website. (Worldmapper makes unique maps called cartograms, where territories are re-sized on each map according to the subject of interest. For example this is a map of world population.
