Explain what a faction is (refer to Federalist 10 for this) and describe why James Madison believes that factions threaten civil society
Would it be possible to design a society with no factions? If so, how? If not, why not?
Clarify the difference between a democracy and republic (note, Madison refers to democracy using the terminology “pure democracy”)
Explain Madison’s logic behind the separation of powers as described in Federalist 51. Do you agree that it is necessary to divide and decentralize power when designing government? Why? Why not?
