Instructions: Please read the assigned readings below and complete an essay review (initial post). Your review should include an introduction, a body and a conclusion. The review should include the following: 1) a comprehensive response to the discussion question(s) below; and, (2) a brief critique of the reading.

After reading the assigned readings:
(1) Chapters 1 and 2 of the course text;
Learning Objectives:
Discuss how public policies on crime are formed;
Recognize how the crime control and due process models of criminal justice help us understand the system;
Be able to explain: “What is a crime?”;
Describe the major types of crime in the United States;
Analyze how much crime there is and understand how it is measured;
Describe who is likely to be victimized by crime in America; and,
Describe the theoretical perspective used to explain criminality.
Discussion: Students, you are to do the following: define criminal justice; identify and discuss the goals of the criminal justice system; identify and discuss the main components of the criminal justice system? How do they interrelate? How may they conflict? Explain why crime must be defined and be identified. Please support your work with scholarly related material.
Please note: To actively and successfully participate in discussions, each post should demonstrate your achievement of the participation criteria (Students’ original/initial post should be substantive with supported scholarly published work (including at least one other source in addition to the course assigned textbook) posted by Thursday. You should also respond to the posts of at least two of your fellow learners’ posts to the discussion/assignment question(s). These responses to other learners should also be substantive posts that contribute to the conversation by asking questions, respectfully debating positions, and presenting supporting information relevant to the topic (Please see discussion rubric included in the course syllabus). Also, respond to any follow-up questions the instructor directs to you in the discussion area.
