At the crossroads of Hartwell highway and Red Hill Road in Hartwell Georgia, there are gigantic slabs of granite (sort of like Stonehenge). This monument is called the Georgia Guidestones. Etched into the slabs in multiple languages are guidelines for how to run the world.
Your assignment is to analyze 1 or 2 (max 3) of the ten guidelines. Analyze them carefully. What terms and meanings of words could allow for interpretations that could lead to more problems rather than solutions? Do not discuss the history or the mystery of the guidestones—only analyze the text on the guidestones.
Think about these questions to set up your thesis: Should we the follow the guidelines totally or partially? Why? Should we destroy the monument?
Use real life, specific examples from history or literature or the news that supports your analysis. Your analysis should focus on the actual text on the guidestones. You can compare other languages to the English. For example, if you know Arabic, you can discuss the Arabic in part as it connects to the English.
You must incorporate into your style at least one example of the following:
· parallel structure (doublets and triplets),
· correct use of passive voice,
· conciseness,
· appositives,
· anadiplosis,
· antithesis.
Label these devices in your writing:
Like this:
“The Georgia Guidestones, granite structures etched with societal
guidelines, are cryptic at best, and misleading at worst (appositive).
If labeling the style is confusing, no worries. Ask me during the reviews of our papers and I will explain and show more samples.
