What does the HISTORY of the 8th Amendment say about basic life sustenance (this involves your research)?

• Specifically regarding the SCOTUS (Supreme Court of the United States) case of Brown vs. Plata (563 U.S. 493 (2011)) out of California.
• Sustenance = basic survival needs: food, water, shelter, medical care
• Look at the 8th Amendment – (page 130 of your U.S. Constitution book). Now knowing what sustenance is and the 8th Amendment, answer this before researching the case, “What do you think is the MINIMUM sustenance awarded to prisoners that is needed to satisfy the law?”
• What does the HISTORY of the 8th Amendment say about basic life sustenance (this involves your research)? Anything?
• I want your opinion before reading the court case. Then I want what you think the majority and minority opinions are saying – they are clearly two different views!
Majory Court opinion – the official legal opinion written by the “winning side” Judges in the court case. Minority opinion – the official legal response argued (but lost) by the Judges on the losing side of the court case.
