What is the largest agricultural crop produced in the U.S. in terms of sales revenues?
The answer is D because in terms of revenue, the number one crop is marijuana. By volume,
corn is still king. And to be clear, this was true 50 years ago. It has nothing to do with states
beginning to make marijuana legal starting about 10 years ago.

Hello all,
I would like to discuss question 5 since I assumed most of the water from bottled water was collected from spring water (as is sometimes advertised on the bottle). Now that we know it is from municipal water systems, I have a few questions for you.
1) Why do you think it is advantageous for a private company to source their materials from a public entity?
2) What potential problems could arise from this?
3) Would public knowledge of Coca-Cola using water produced from the city affect the demand for Dasani water?
I’m looking forward to discussion.
Sincerely,
Ana Magarreiro
Dear all,
For my discussion post, I have chosen to discuss question #3, mainly because I do not agree with the assumption that the US is not dependent at all from foreign oil.
The reason of my disagreement is the fact that, in the long run, the demand is greater than the supply.
And one of the reasons is given to us in the statement, in this exercise, that the US has reserves of coal that can be potentially converted in gasoline. Granted that there is technology currently available that makes it; this is not only a very expensive process, and not sustainable in the long run, but also coal itself is finite and not guaranteed to supply the demand for the longer term. This makes, in my opinion, the US at least partly dependent on foreign oil.
Another aspect of the answer is the argument that if the US do not use his reserves of oil, the country will be in advantage, for the next war as an example. As stated previously, the coal will eventually end, so the future is the energy coming from renewal energies. On this insight, China is already positioning to become the first producer of electric cars in the world.
So, I think the US should focus on this kind of energy as a priority, not only for the good of the environment, but also to keep her strong position in the world which, as the Global leading democratic nation. As countries like China, who are not democrat nations, gain the lead in finding sustainable sources of energy for the longer run, this will pose great danger to the national and worldwide safety and stability.
I would like to take this opportunity to wish all my colleagues and faculty a wonderful semester.
Best,
Brayden Kuptz
Hello Class,
For my discussion post, I decided to discuss question #6. The reason behind choosing question #6, is the fact that I found it the most surprising out of all of the questions in the Chapter 1 and Chapter 2 quiz. Before taking this class, I would have assumed that Republicans manage the U.S. economy better than Democrats because when I think of policy that is tailored towards capitalism and growth of the overall economy, I immediately think about the Republican Party. In contrast to my last assumption, I would have assumed that the Democratic Party would be less inclined to manage the U.S. Economy because their policy focuses on helping the people rather than growing the economy.
When it comes to politics, I can transparently say that I have not conducted enough research to just assume anything in regards to policy creation or overall health of the economy. By reading chapters 1 and 2 of our Textbook “Principles of Microeconomics” I have discovered that I have a lot to learn about both parties, and their focus. I also have to ensure that I have a clear understanding of the history and accomplishments of both parties.
After reading through my discussion post, I have a couple of questions for you to think about.
When you personally think about the Republican party and Democratic party, what are your first thoughts on the direction they would like to take the U.S. economy?
What party would you assume is more focused on providing aid to the people vs. growing the economy?
After reading chapters #1 and #2 in our textbook, do you have a clearer understanding as to why the Democratic party has managed the economy better than the Republican Party?
I would like to thank you in advance for taking the time to read my discussion post along with answering the questions I have provided. I will be sure to respond back to your answers accordingly.
As this is the first discussion post of the semester, I wanted to take a moment to wish all of you a great start to the semester!
I will be looking forward to discussing these broad questions further in the response section below!
Respectfully,
