There’s a famous quote (mis-attributed to G.K.Chesterton I’ve learned): “the young man who rings the bell at the brothel is unconsciously looking for God.”
Do you think this famous quote is invoking Diotima’s speech and specifically her famous ladder? If not for God, then the highest ideal of love/beauty?
