The case study this week deals with someone acting not only as a whistleblower for their organization, but describing active attempts inside the organization to limit the power of the executive. In doing so, they mention many of the topics that are discussed in this week’s readings (not their direct words) including but not limited to lying, incompetence, and administrative evil. Moving away from this particular executive and this particular case, use the assigned articles to answer the following question:
Is whistleblowing an ethical action by a public administrator?
Place yourself inside a governmental organization that is engaging in actions that you believe are unethical in ways that have been defined in previous weeks.
In answer your question, make sure that you discuss the following concepts:
– whistleblowing (Delmas article),
– lying (Pasquerella et al. article),
– incompetence (Adams and Balfour article), and
– administrative evil (Hoffman et al.).
In discussing these topics, make sure you first define them and then apply them to whistleblowing.
