What changes has Monet made in the color palette between the different paintings?

Monet’s Grainstack (Sunset) exemplifies “plein air painting”, or painting outside in the open air. Monet has provided clues throughout the work that inform us of the time of day. Compare this work to four of the other Grainstack paintings at the WebMuseum in Paris ( “Grainstack Sunset” is also there under its French title). Each of these Grainstack is descriptive of a different time of day.

Make one of your OWN observations this week about something that you see outside everyday perhaps as you are traveling to and from work or school.

1)How does the relative color change on that object at different times of the day. 5 points

2) Take at least 2 photographs of the EXACT SAME SUBJECT MATTER at different times during the day. Post both of your photographs and explain the differences you observed using your new formal artterminology Do not send me two different subjects. You need to observe the changes of light on the same subject. It could be a tree in the front yard, but it must be the same subject at different times of day under the same or similar lighting conditions, ( not sunny one day and completely cloudy the next). 15 total points
