How to Succeed on the Week 5 Final Project
In this week’s assignment, we will create our final project. Please use the information you gathered in the Week 3 assignment to help you create your final project. To complete the assignment,
1. Write a feature story on a selected topic.
2. Select an appropriate magazine to send the story.
3. Meet 800-to-1000 word count.
4. Incorporate major media writing concepts.
a. Include a proposed headline.
b. Create a strong feature lead paragraph that hooks readers and gains their attention, and interest. Please see a list of feature lead strategies on page 85 in your text.
c. Create a “nut graf” early in your feature story. A nut graf is usually after the lead paragraph or early in the story and tells the reader what the story is really about.
d. Remember in feature stories the quotation attributions are usually in present tense.
e. Please use correct formatting for a feature story submission. See “Newsletter and Magazine Stories” section in our text. Use an organizational strategy as recommended in the text on p. 83.
f. Remember if you submit your story to an editor, you need to add –more- at the end of each page until the last page.
g. Remember if you submit your story line to an editor, you need a slug in the top right of your pages after the first page.
h. Remember to end your story with a closing symbol such as 30 or ###.
i. Avoid giving your opinion. Our text says a feature story is “designed to inform or entertain and inform.”
5. Please use research to support the content of your paper.
6. Remember to Cite sources using correct APA formatting.
7. Support claims with examples from Internet sources or scholarly resources.
8. Remember to use in-text citations for paraphrased and quoted material
