It can be regarding a patient encounter, a relationship with a patient. and has the potnentioal to be submitted for publication in the newsletter published monthly.”

My encounter: Patient name is Mrs. VC, 79 years old. She came in for hyperkalemia, an incidental finding from routine blood work with her PCP. This was her first hospitalization ever. She’s always been healthy, so she was extremelty nervous. She lived more than 1 hour away from the hospital, so did not have her family there to comfort / visit. Only via phone calls. I sat with her on multiple occasssions, made her feel comfortable, eased her anxiety. Turned out to be a medication side effect, her BP medication. But she didn’t fully understand, she thought it was her fault. I explained to her in using other examples/scenarios. Provided her with instructions on a low potassium diet, which foods to eat, which foods to avoid, when she was ready for discharge.

She wrote me a letter. I attached photos of it. That was very sweet, made me tearful. This rotation is long hours, stressful, it was nice to know i was having a meaningufl impact on a patient. Please mention this, quote a line from it.

Please write about 3/4 to 1 page reflection essay, regarding patient encounters in the medical field, specifically my encounter during my internal medicine rotation.
