Please select a book from the included list. Your book reflection should include:
A brief summary (no more than 1/2 page).
Your reaction to the book. Please include at least one paragraph on how this book relates to the course. The following is a list of suggestions for inclusion in the remainder of your reaction section. Please select only those points that are most relevant to your paper. Include any additional ideas you may have. Please use specific examples and quotations from the book you have selected.
Did you agree/disagree with the author?
What would you change about the book?
Why was this book written?
What did you learn from this book?
Any other points necessary to properly critique the book.
Please note: This is not a research paper, nor is it your typical book report. It should be entirely your thoughts and reactions to the book. No outside sources (besides the textbook) are to be used. In addition, some of these books may discuss events that may seem unethical to you. If so, please limit your critique of the ethics to one paragraph. The quality and depth of your reflections plays a major role in your grade.
The paper must be typed, double-spaced, with one-inch margins on the top, sides, and bottom. You may need to reset your default margin. DO NOT justify (line up) your right margin. Please use Times or Times New Roman font, set at 12 points. The paper should be 4-5 full pages in length. Please follow the correct format, and do not “stretch out” a 3-page paper into 4 pages. You will be penalized for being short on the length requirement. With proper formatting, a full page will have 23 lines and there will be a minimum of 1,600 words for a 4 page paper. Include a title page with your name, date, and class. The title page is separate from the 4-5 page requirement. Have a back-up plan in case of a computer malfunction.
Please submit your paper in Microsoft Word or Rich Text Format (rtf) only!
GCC uses SimCheck to check for non-original work. It checks websites, books, other students’ papers, etc. Please do not copy & paste paragraphs from web pages into your paper or submit another student’s paper or a paper from a term paper website. It will be red-flagged by SimCheck and you will receive an ‘F’ on the assignment. This also includes material from papers you personally have submitted in prior classes. It will even detect a paper that has been “rewritten.”
You will only be allowed to submit your assignment once. Be sure to get it right the first time!
