G Purpose: The purpose of this paper is for you to think about social problems that we encounter every day. How can you take the things that you have learned and read about in your textbook and apply them to what’s going on around us every day?

Select a news item from a recent (within the last few weeks) news article from the Blinn Library using this link: http://libguides.blinn.edu/c.php?g=17897&p=100582 . These can be articles, opinion pieces or editorials. Read the news item carefully, and write a 500 word paper summarizing and analyzing in your own words. Please submit a link or copy of the news item, along with your written paper.
Summary: Begin with a summary by answering the following questions in a paragraph format:
Who or what is the social problem about? Be sure to list important facts.
When did this event or issue take place?
Where is the event or issue occurring (specific city, country, region, etc.)
Analysis: Analyze the article and present your opinion by answering the following questions in paragraph format:
Describe how the sociological imagination can be used to explain the emergence and implications of contemporary social problems.
Why is this social problem important?
What is happening because of this event or issue?
Who is it going to affect? What does it have to do with you?
What makes this event or issue important?
Analyze the role of inequality or diversity within society.
Explain the complex links between individual experience and broader institutional forces.
How can you connect it to definitions, theories, perspectives from the textbook?
Take a stand. Make sure you support your opinion with facts from the current event.

Grammar/Organization – 10 points
