Assignment: Write a 3 page essay (minimum 750 words). Choose at least 2 aspects of your own culture (Chinese/Korean/Japan Culture) to compare and contrast with the French culture portrayed in the 2 films. Pay special attention to historical and societal elements and give specific examples from both of the films. Make a meaningful argument about what you have learned. In other words, why is this comparison important for you to make?
Guidelines:
In this essay you will compare elements of your culture and French culture that you observed in the films. You will examine, explain and analyze these elements of culture. Do not just tell the story. Do not include your opinion of the movie.
This essay covers a rather broad topic, which means you have a lot of freedom regarding the subject and organization. Try to understand the spirit, or the goal of this assignment: You will examine your culture (if you are multi-cultural, choose the one you most strongly identify with) in a meaningful and personal way, and compare it to what you have learned about French culture from the films.
Double-spaced, 1 inch margins, Times New Roman 12-point font
3 pages minimum (750 words minimum). This does not include optional Works Cited page. Works Cited in MLA format if sources are used.
Outside sources are optional. You may use the films exclusively as your support.
