Annotated Bibliography: The student will submit the full bibliographical information for 5 academic source accompanied by a minimum 100 word annotation identifying the sources main argument and evaluating its strengths and weaknesses. Annotations must be entirely the students own work. Copying from book reviews or summaries will be considered plagiarism. (475 word)
Rough Draft: The student will write an exegesis paper on Philemon. The aim of this paper is argumentative and should begin with a thesis about the pericope, which the student will argue throughout the paper, drawing on scholarly sources, such as those listed in their annotated bibliography, in order to support their argument. Students should also address sources that disagree with their interpretation and defend themselves by explaining points of the sources argumentation that are flawed, motivated by unacceptable theological presuppositions, or detrimental to the furtherance of social justice.
