find a current events news article and write a critical analysis review. summarize the article and explain the economic concepts that are related then you will critique how the author uses positive and normative analysis and their use of economic theory.

1. Final an article
– It should be from a mainstream news publication (i.e. the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal, LA Times, etc.) in 2021. Article must either address or illustrate one of the themes of economics
– You must choose a current event news article with an identified author or authors (i.e. it should say by: someones name)
2. your review:
– Your article review should include the following components. You dont have to answer each question directly, but this is to give you guidance on what to think about and they types of things to include in each paragraph/section.
Introduction and Article summary: Identify your target article (author, title, date of publication, newspaper name). Briefly explain what the article is about. Give a summary of the overall premise and conclusions of the article.
Economic Application: Explain the economic concepts that apply to this article. For instance, if you are writing about the toilet paper shortage, you might discuss supply and demand theory, market structure (competitive vs. monopoly), elasticity of supply/demand.
Critique: Does the author correctly use economic theory? Are they persuasive in their arguments (discuss positive and normative analysis)? This is the most challenging section and will require you to dig deeper and go beyond the text of the article. You will not likely find the authors explicitly discussing economic theory and instead you will look at the evidence they offer and the conclusions they present to see if it lines up with what the economic theories say. This section does not need to be negative. You can also have a positive critique where you discuss things the author did well.
Here is what I am looking for when I grade this review.
Was the article chosen related to the course content?
Was the article recent and from a mainstream news source?
Did the analysis and critique reflect deep understanding of the theory/content?
Were there errors made in applying economic theory?
Were the economic theories chosen simple or complex?
Was there only one simple theory applied vs multiple theories or complex theories?
Were all formatting requirements met?
