OverviewThe purpose of this assignment is two fold. •First, this essay willchallenge you to consider the efforts of innovators who we might talk a lot about. In this class I tend to hear a lot about Steve Jobs, Elon Musk and a few other very high-profile innovators. With this assignment I’d like toyou to explore the innovative efforts of someone who might get less air-time.•Second, this assignment will give you an opportunity to consider how certain skills and mindsets show up in an innovator that you admire. To complete the assignment you have to first read the assigned reading from Module #2 (The Innovator’s DNA). You then need to select an innovator from a pre-approved list (available on Brightspace). Everyone on the list could be described as impactful. Impactful can mean financially successful, technically brilliant and/or focused on social change and prosperity. They can innovate in any context -large corporations, start-ups, government, healthcare, local communities, creative industries, food industries…the spaces in which innovation can happen is limitless.The key is that they have been responsible for creating and implementing a new idea.Once you have identified your impactful innovator, the next step is to do some additional research to learn more about them and their story. I’ll be looking for you to incorporate a minimum of 4reliable sourcesin your effort to write your essay. You can start with some of the web articles that are includedon the list of innovators.Yoursourcesfor this assignmentdo not need to be academic (they don’t need to be from peer-reviewed journals). They can be from online news websites or business and industry magazines. They can be from online blogs as long you assess the quality of the information source and disclose any limitations or bias that you think might relevant (you can do this using footnotes in the essay). Be very sure to cite your sources accurately (put quotation marks and in-text citations around full quotes and in-text citations without quotes around information that is paraphrased). Use APA 7thEdition citation style. You can find more information about APA 7thEdition at here. Failure to cite accurately is considered an academic integrity violation.As you read about your impactful innovator, look for information that will allow you to complete a strong essay. I will be looking for your essay to include the following:1.An introduction: this should include an introduction to the essay. A good introduction would inform the reader ofthe focus of your essay, provide abriefintroduction to your impactful innovator (who are they and what innovation are they responsible for) and why you chose them.2.An evidence-based discussion (use your foursources) that examines how your innovator has demonstrated twoof the skills referenced in the assigned reading (the reading talks about five key discovery skills that make up an innovator’s DNA). You can demonstrate how the innovator usedthe skills to produce an innovation orhow the innovator uses the skills to encourage those around them to contribute to an innovation process. It is very likely that the sources you find are not going to talk explictly about the discovery skills mentioned in our article. You’re going to have to identify some of their actions and make a case for why we can refer to these actions as discovery skills put to use.3.A conclusion that identifies 1-2 key insights or take-aways from your discussion. Your assignment should be 600-750 words, not including references or footnotes.
