that results in an effective, compelling essay. Remember you are not merely summarizing the

the author’s main idea or point; you are focused only on the ways the argument is presented
and defended. Be on the lookout for logical fallacies and other errors that undermine the
essay. Remember, emotional arguments are powerful, but they are not considered logical in
