You may need to define terms here, etc. and provide other necessary background information for students to be able to discuss the plankton sampling technique. Your goal is to provide a simple explanation, not a highly technical one.
2. Briefly describe the methods for estimating phytoplankton biomass and community composition using fluorescence, pigments, or reflected light. What are the advantages of using chlorophyll fluorescence or satellite observations to estimate phytoplankton populations? What are the limitations of each technique?
