Your first essay asks you to produce a synthesis of two of the texts we have read this semester.
The purpose of this assignment is to encourage you to articulate what TWO assigned texts argue about a particular issue in order to understand what point, or perhaps conversation, that they are making about this issue.
Here are some guiding questions to analyze the works: What common ideas/topics/themes do they address? What similarities or differences are there in their approaches to these common ideas? What are their major points of agreement? What are their major points of difference? What do you conclude about the issue from surveying both perspectives?
After surveying the central argument, supporting claims, and evidence of each work, move towards the connections you see between the texts to formulate your analysis and argument.
Formulate a thesis in roughly 1-2 sentences that shows how the 2 works relate to each other and what they reveal to you about the issue.
This assignment requires you to summarize and connect the two works using quoted and paraphrased material with citations to support your thesis. No outside sources.
This paper should be 3-4 pages with the minimum being 3 FULL pages.
