Task:
Read Aeschylus’s tragedy Agamemnon in its entirety. When you read Agamemnon, find the
answers to the following questions. Make sure to take notes as you read. The answers to
these questions will be the content of your Paper 2. Note: The play Agamemnon is the first
part of Aeschylus’s trilogy The Oresteia. For Paper 2, you should only read Agamemnon.
1. Agamemnon is considered the hero of Agamemnon. Give an example from Agamemnon
that demonstrates how he is a tragic hero and explain why you have chosen this
particular excerpt to make your point.
2. Apart from Agamemnon, who would you say is the hero of Agamemnon? Give an
example from the play that demonstrates your choice and explain why you have chosen this
particular character as your hero. Your hero can be either a man or a woman
(mortal), but not a god or goddess (immortal).
3. How would you interpret the relationship between Agamemnon and Clytemnestra in
Agamemnon? Give an example from the text that supports your interpretation and
explain why you have selected this particular example.
